Should I get a full set of irons or just an odd numbered set?

I'm going to buy new golf clubs and I have the option to buy a full set or just buy the clubs I want. There is no discount for buying a full set so I will save money buy just buying individual clubs. I've noticed when I go golfing I never use my 4, 6, or 8 iron, I probably could but I never see a point to it. Has anyone bought just an odd-numbered set and regretted it? Do I really need a 4, 6, and 8 if I have a 3, 5, 7, and 9? I shoot about 100 for 18 holes and am improving but I'm no pro and saving money is priority number one.
