Re-entering Canada with an unpaid fine
Hey everyone!
I'm about to go to Canada for holidays and there's one thing that really keeps me bothered.
In January 2010, I got a 150 CAD fine in Montreal (Quebec) for drinking in public places (for having an 'opened alcoholic beverage' in the metro station, specifically). I left Canada in June 2010, never having paid the fine (although I received a 'reminder' by post). I don't know if there were further 'reminders' sent to me or if I was actually summoned to court.
I am an EU national an when the officer asked me for identification, I just gave him my national EU ID card and gave him my address in Montreal - I haven't shown my passport. Knowing that I will leave Canada soon and having in mind the ridiculously expensive fine, I never paid it.
