Is it likely to snow in Geneva (Switzerland) in January?
Hi there. I am sorry to say that Geneva and its immediate surroundings (at an average altitude of 500 m/1600 feet) did not get any snow that was worth of note last year. As far as I can remember the last time it snowed at least 10 cm/3 inches down in the plains (the low-lying areas of Switzerland) was maybe 2 years ago.
However you can easily take the train down to the major skiing area of Switzerland, the Valais, home to such skiing resorts as Crans-Montana, Verbier, Zermatt and Saas-Fee. Getting to these resorts takes 1 hour and half to 3 hours by car (note that Zermatt is car-free for non-residents) or take the train, which takes about 2 hours (on average) to get to your destination.
You could also go skiing in the Vaud canton (state) Alps, in resorts like Villars/Les Diablerets both about 1 hour and a half from Geneva.
